Forres was identified by the Roman Ptolemy as the settlement of 'Varis' and has been
a Royal burgh for well over 500 years. As well as being the site of Sueno's stone,
it is also believed to be where King Macbeth had his castle. The town tolbooth, seen
here, is a Victorian reconstruction of a much older building on the same site.
